Rather than create a third party (see U.S. President’s Second Term Case 1) for the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election, Mike Bloomberg, fellow Republican and fellow Conservative of President Donald Trump, resigned from the Republican Party and joined the Democratic Party, then announced that he was entering the presidential election race as a Democratic candidate.
Bloomberg has committed $2.4 billion of his own money to “Defeating Trump”. He has deployed a national staff of professionals who are assured of employment through the November 2020 election campaign period; they will work for the Democratic candidate whether it is Bloomberg or another Democrat selected at the Democratic National Convention.
I wonder why Bloomberg did not instead create a third party, the strategy that worked against Bush 41 in the 1992 election. *See the previous essay of mine.
To put a timeline to it, the Republican National Convention will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, 24-27 August, 2020. The Democratic National Convention will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 13-16 July, 2020. The main purpose of both Conventions is to select respective candidates for President and Vice President for the November 2020 election.
For each Convention, there will be 57 delegations: 50 states; Washington, DC; Puerto Rica; American Virgin Islands; American Samoa; Guam; Northern Marianas Islands; Americans living abroad.
